Power of the Gift Note

Filed under: customer service, gift ideas — Ashley @ 1:42 pm

Just as a reminder, although we will not be printing Heirloom Cookbooks until late April, please don’t forget the power of the Gift Note.

The Secret Ingredients offers Gift Notes for anyone that planned on presenting an Heirloom Cookbook as a gift to someone, but can not at the present moment as a result of our production halt.  Gift Notes are free of charge and lets the recipient know that you are creating a custom Heirloom Cookbook just for them that includes their favorite recipes and photographs.

Turns out, my family has been using the power of the Gift Note for years now.  I can recall several Christmas’s and birthdays where family members will open a box only to find a print out of the intended gift.  It’s unconventional yes, but at least the person knows that you made an effort, and you were thinking about them, but due to unforeseen circumstances you can’t actually present them with your cool awesome gift in that exact moment, but at least they know they’re getting a great gift.  In fact, the Gift Note is a creative way to increase excitement and anticipation for the actual gift in hand.

So don’t underestimate the power of the Gift Note.  Our Customer Service Representative will be happy to send you one until we can print your Heirloom Cookbook in April.

That’s it for me, until next time…

Working With The Best!

Filed under: cookbook ideas, customer service, tips & tricks — Ashley @ 2:00 pm

At The Secret Ingredients you get the best of the best when it comes to your customized cookbook needs. Here are just a few reasons why you’ll only get the cream of the crop at The Secret Ingredients.

1. Best Customer Service: We make it a point to keep an open dialogue with all of our customers as they work on their cookbook projects. We are always here to answer any of your questions before, during, and after you create a cookbook. As always, feel free to contact one of our Secret Ingredients Customer Service Representatives via email at, or via phone at toll free 866-697-3247.

2. Free Membership: Creating a Secret Ingredients Cookbook is a completely free service to you. Most cookbook websites require their users to pay membership fees simply to start a cookbook project; that’s money you’re spending before you’ve even seen or received a finished product.

At the Secret Ingredients there are NO MEMBERSHIP FEES, and setting up your account is easy. Just select the type of cookbook you would like to make and setup your account on the Get Started page. From there you’re all set to enter your recipes and customize your cookbook, free of charge.

3. Quality and Look of Our Products: From the high quality three-ring leather binders of our Heirloom Cookbooks, to the professional binding of our Keepsake Cookbooks you’re getting the best looking products on the market. You won’t find any flimsy spiral cookbooks here, and all of our cookbooks come with the best paper and are produced with the highest quality printing methods.

4. Variety of Products: The Secret Ingredients is no one trick pony.  We started with one signature product and quickly saw the need to add variety and spice for our customers.  There’s the Heirloom Cookbook that comes with the three-ring leather binder in three different colors. You can also choose from a variety of divider sets, font styles, and paper colors.  Our Keepsake Cookbooks come with several different cover options that you can customize yourself that are perfect for any occasion. The Secret Ingredients also offers Cookbook Kits. You get the same classic look of Heirloom Cookbooks but with the added convenience of the newest trend of DIY. Don’t forget, we also offer gift certificates.

5. The Sky’s the Limit: We have cookbooks that hold as few as 25 recipes or as many as 250. The size of your cookbook is completely up to you; the power is in your hands.

6. Cookbook Previews: When a customer finishes a Keepsake Cookbook, they’re sent a preview of their finished project. You’ll get an exact replica of your cookbook via email for your final approval before your files are sent to the printer.

***Coming Soon: Cookbook Previews for Heirloom books!

7. Quick Turnaround: Once your files are sent to the printer, you can expect to receive your order within 2-3 weeks. We also offer express shipping too.

8. Reordering Is Easy: Once your files are in your Secret Ingredients account, they stay there. That makes it that much easier to reorder more cookbooks in the future. Just contact a Secret Ingredients Customer Service Representative and we’ll be happy to help you with the reordering process.

**Don’t forget, when reordering Keepsake Cookbooks you have the option of changing your cover as well.

9. We only give you what you need!: Most cookbook websites make their users order in bulk; not here. If you only want one cookbook, you only have to order one. If you want 100 cookbooks, we can help you with that too.

10. Blog, Blog, Blog: The Secret Ingredients Blog is updated almost daily with helpful tips, company updates, and of course yummy recipes that everyone is welcome to try for themselves and add to their own Secret Ingredients Cookbook.

If you didn’t know working with Secret Ingredients meant you were working with the best, now you know.

That’s it for me, until next time…

Thank You, SI Customers

Filed under: customer service, family cookbook — Kate @ 1:52 pm

The main reason I started Secret Ingredients was because I was inspired by the joy I saw when family members celebrated one another and connected in a meaningful project.  As I’ve said many times, Secret Ingredients cookbooks are emotional gifts.  They are made with so much love, thought, time, and thanks that it is often an emotional experience for the recipient, as well as the creator.

As I was previewing cookbook orders today, I had a moment of thanks.  I feel so lucky to be involved in these projects- to be trusted to make such important gifts and heirlooms.  I am thankful to have each of you as SI customers. The fact that you have taken the time to really make the people in your life feel special is amazing to me.  I’ve always known that a cookbook project is not for everyone.  It takes time and commitment, although it’s a lot of fun.  For those of you that are making or have completed projects, you are a special bunch, and we feel lucky to work with you.

Here’s to you and your cookbook project!  Cheers!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Re-Visiting An Old Friend And Staying Current

Filed under: customer service, tips & tricks — Ashley @ 12:03 pm

It happens all the time:  You’re surfing the internet, you find this great website and set-up an account with them (username, password, and everything), then months go by before you re-visit the website and take advantage of what they have to offer.  By the time you go back, you’ve forgotten your original account information so just create a whole new account.

Well if this has ever happened to you here at the Secret Ingredients, it’s not a problem.  Simply get in touch with one of our Customer Service representatives via our toll free Customers Service line at 866-697-3247, or email at and we’ll be happy to remind you of your existing account, username, and password.  You may even find that you have great recipes floating around in a forgotten account.

Another thing to consider for all customers is your contact information.  Since we believe in high-quality customer service, our Customer Service team may call you just to check in and see how your cookbook project is going, and if there is anything we can help you with.  This is something to keep in mind if you have registered your work phone number as your main contact number, but don’t normally handle personal business during regular business hours.

We also rely heavily on contacting our customers about company updates via email; but we understand that email addresses change or get pushed to the wayside for new ones every once in a while.  If you think you need to update your contact info, again, simply send us an email at and we’ll be happy to update your account.

That’s it for me, until next time…

Ring, Ring! Secret Ingredients Calling!

Filed under: customer service — Ashley @ 8:04 pm

Some of you may have gotten a phone call from our Customer Service Department within the last week, and there are still a few more calls to go. This is just an example of the high-quality Customer Service you get here at The Secret Ingredients. We are taking it upon ourselves to reach out to all of our Heirloom Cookbook customers to personally make sure you are aware of some important company developments.

As many of you may already know, we’ve been working hard for the last few months on upgrades to our Heirloom Cookbooks. During that time, we’ve halted the production of those books and hoped to be up and running soon. Unfortunately, those upgrades are taking longer than expected and the Heirloom Cookbooks will not be completed in time for the holiday season; they are expected to be printed April 2008. Heirloom Customers have been notified of this via email; the courtesy phone calls are a follow-up to these emails. It’s our way of reaching out to make sure you have the information you need from us, to personally apologize once again if we’ve caused any inconvenience, and to remind you of the other options that we are offering our customers this holiday season. Some of those options include the Cookbook Kits, Gift Certificates, and Keepsake Cookbooks.

I’ve always said that one of the best things about Secret Ingredients is its customers. It has been very reassuring to hear how much you all appreciate the extra mile our team is going to make sure we provide the absolute best customer service to you that we possibly can. Even people that have not been directly affected by the production halt extension have been very understanding, patient, and appreciative of the courtesy calls.

We here at The Secret Ingredients greatly appreciate all of our customers and thank you for your loyalty and patience.

That’s it for me, until next time…

A Note from Ashley

Working for The Secret Ingredients for almost a year now has been an incredible experience.  I’m so grateful that Kate has introduced me to the wonderful world of customized cookbooks, sharing recipes and family traditions, and of course, all of her amazing customers.  I’ve always admired the fact that even though Kate is the owner and founder of The Secret Ingredients, she still makes it a point to reach out to each and every one of her customers, talk with them on a personal level, and treat them with the highest quality of respect and service.  Kate leads by example, and I plan to follow in her footsteps.

Through my work as your Customer Service Expert, as well the thoughts I share here on the blog, I plan to provide you with all the knowledge you need to create the perfect cookbook project for you, your family, and friends.  I’ll also be sharing Tips ‘n’ Tricks such as the best category to put a recipe under, how to make the most out of your Heirloom Cookbook, plus fun and unique ways to present Keepsake Cookbooks, and much more.

As always, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me at  Not only questions, but plenty of tip and tricks of your own, suggestions, or even a family story or recipe that inspired you to start a Secret Ingredients cookbook project… not a problem, I’m up for anything!  Thanks for stopping by, and I look forward to hearing from all of you very soon!
